San Gabriel Cemetery - Hidden from the view of passers by, tucked into the residential streets of San Gabriel, bordering on the high priced real estate of San Marino, is the second oldest cemetery in San Gabriel. The oldest one is at The Mission.
This is the family burial site, dating to 1900. Six generations of our family are buried at this site.

This seven-year research project is based on the unpublished diary of Luther Titus, the great great grandfather of writer-educator Dr. Ann Dorr.
This exciting, dangerous, challenging, story takes you through Luther's actual experiences and real events on his trip through one of the least known, but most dangerous routes to California, his mining for gold and striking it rich in the most violent camp of the Mother Lode, to San Francisco and his experiences as a businessman, his mysterious illness and return through the Isthmus of Panama to home.
Most people can tell you about their parents and a little about their grandparents and very little about their great grandparents and on and on. They can tell you about where they were born and what they did for a living, but the mystery of their lives is lost. And there are those who don’t care about others’ lives and have no interest. My dad was like that. ‘The past is the past’., he would say.
When I started this project I knew only pieces of the history of the last four generations. What began as a side-trip to my life - a curiosity, become an obsession. I never suspected this would change my life and set it in a new direction.
I discovered my father’s family lived in Los Angeles during a time that will never be again. I too have a history in Los Angeles three generations later.
This is a record of my research and what I discovered.
